10 Steps to Becoming an Umpire

10 Steps to Becoming a Delta Fastpitch Association Umpire

1. □     Register to be an umpire with Delta Fastpitch Association.

2. □     Register to be an umpire with Softball BC. When paying, select "my association will pay for my registration fee".  Note - you must umpire at least 8 games to qualify for free registration.
If unsure about umpirinng, wait until you do the clinic with Delta Fastpitch before you register with Softball BC. After the clinic, you can make a decision, and if this is for you, then register with Softball BC.

3. □     Register to take the Level 1 Umpire Mechanics Course (in-person course; about 3 hours).

4. □     Register to take the Level 1 Umpire Online Theory Course (virtual or pre-recorded course; about 5 hours).

5. □     Take Softball Canada's online Level 1-2FP Umpire Test.

6. □     Email DFA President to request to borrow umpire protective equipment (deposit required - $50 cheque made out to Delta Fastpitch Association).

7. □     Email DFA Umpire-In-Chicer to obtain a free umpire t-shirt and hat from Delta Fastpitch. The expectation is that you will purchase a collared blue umpire shirt if you continue to umpire with Delta Fastpitch next season.

8. □     Purchase an umpire starter kit (ball bag, brush and clicker), navy blue pants with enough leg room to allow for shin guards underneath, jock or jill, black belt, black socks, and black shoes.

9. □     Email DFA Umpire-In-Chief when ready for umpire orientation – umpire rooms, equipment storage, game balls.

10. □     Email DFA Umpire-In-Chief to get a lesson in how to use Scheduler
